City of La Verne Parks Master Plan
DEA prepared a Parks Master Plan to assess the current and projected needs of the city and residents of La Verne, Calif., and make recommendations for meeting future needs.
National Parks and Recreation standards were used as a benchmark and guideline to evaluate the city’s recreational facilities. This information helped identify where the city recreational focuses have been, where they are now, and what changes need to occur. The master plan provides the city with an updated implementation tool for the Parks and Recreation Facilities Master Development Program, originally adopted in 1989.
Sections of the master plan include an introduction; community analysis; a needs assessment; community input surveys; and interviews with sports user groups, city officials, and city staff; parks, facility, and programming recommendations; and financial strategies.
The DEA team worked closely with the city and community members to assess and analyze their needs, make recommendations for solutions, and propose financial strategies for funding to enable the city to implement those recommendations.

"The best part about preparing master plans is the relationships you make with the people of the community. The project duration is close to a year, and you get to know the people like family and the parks like your own back yard." -- Gary Meek
